Dr. Joseph Bolil firmly believes that, in order to keep abreast of the latest developments, he must regularly continue his education as a cosmetic dentist. Ali Gentry, Registered Dental Hygienist
Ali earned her degree in Applied Sciences at Virginia Western Community College, majoring in dental hygiene that included local anesthesia and nitrous oxide inhalation sedation. Ali was the recipient of the Hu Friedy's Golden Scaler, a distinctive honor awarded to only one student from each hygiene school in the country. She worked as a dental assistant for nine years, and has been a dental hygienist since 2008. She joined Dr. Bolil's practice in July 2010. In addition to "cleaning teeth," Ali considers her more important responsibility to be a preventive healthcare specialist. She focuses on patient education and conveys the systemic links of good and poor periodontal health. She wants to raise awareness in her patients in order to optimize their overall health. "I love the dynamic feel of this practice," says Ali. "We don't simply offer dental treatment; we offer an overall experience of comfort and genuine quality care. We treat each patient as an individual and customize our treatment to meet his or her specific needs. Every patient is special to us and I think this sets us apart from many practices." Ali is a member of the American Dental Hygiene Association and the Oral Cancer Awareness Group. She is also a member of Dental Impact, an organization that focuses on community outreach programs and establishes access to care in areas that are less likely to receive it. Ali lives with her daughter, Amaya, an avid soccer player. She enjoys running, attending church and spending time with her family.
Angela Shifflett, Registered Dental Hygienist
Angela Shifflett is one of Dr. Bolil's highly skilled Registered Dental Hygienists.
Angela received her education from Northern Virginia Community College, graduating in 2003 with an Associate in Applied Science in Dental Hygiene. The Lynne Garris-Sheldon Memorial Award was given to her for years 2002-2003 for dedication and outstanding contributions in community service. She has enjoyed dentistry for over 20 years, starting out as an assistant in 1991 for 10 years. Continuing education is very important to her by keeping her abreast of the newest thoughts, theories and technology in dental hygiene.
Angela joined Dr. Bolil’s team in October of 2010. Her responsibilities include providing treatment and prevention of oral diseases, advocacy for her patients, and patient education/awareness to overall wellness. Her goal is to help guide them to optimal oral health. Angela is very passionate about helping her patients become aware of their current condition and seeing the patient’s health progress with customized treatments.
Dr. Bolil’s practice is unique to her because there is a true compassion for the patients and a true desire to help people be healthy if they choose. It is Dr. Bolil’s vision to understand and respect the goals and desires of his patients, and form a customized plan to help them achieve such goals.
Angela was born in Washington, DC. and has lived in Virginia her entire life. She currently resides in Bristow, and is married with 3 daughters and one son. She is crazy about her grand-daughter. She loves photography and law, has been a member of the Virginia Dental Hygiene Association, and American Dental Hygiene Association since 2003.
Cheryl Brown, Dental Assistant
Cheryl first came to Dr. Bolil's practice as a patient when she was a child! She started working at the practice over 21 years ago as a part-time front desk person. When the opportunity arose to learn the job of dental assistant, Cheryl jumped at the chance. She trained on the job with Dr. Bolil for a year and a half.
She then reached Master's Level at the Aesthetic Advantage course. There she concentrated on cosmetic dentistry, specifically smile makeovers. In addition to that training, she attends various continuing education classes each year and is certified in both X-ray and CPR. She has also taken courses in digital photography, a particularly useful talent in Dr. Bolil's office. Her photography helps communicate goals with labs and artfully shows off patients enjoying their new smiles.
As the dental assistant, Cheryl helps Dr. Bolil with various procedures and cases, and takes diagnostic radiographs. In addition to her role as a dental assistant, she works as a patient coordinator, making appointments, financial arrangements and treatment planning with Dr Bolil. She oversees the laboratory, takes care of diagnostic models and impressions and fabricates whitening trays, clear retainers and soft night guards.
Cheryl loves her job, especially when she sees patients transformed physically and emotionally by a smile. "When we make enhancements to patients' smiles, especially those who are embarrassed or unhappy with their smiles, I look forward to their reactions!" she says. "There are tears of joy, laughter and even a hug now and then."
Cheryl, and her husband, Todd, have two children, Trevor and Christa. The family enjoys camping, showing pigs at various state fairs and shows, being outdoors and traveling.
